[opensuse-support] How to get long-listing or metadata-listing of tar-archive?
Didn't find this in my search of the manpage, but like the zip format's 'unzip -l', is there an option with 'tar tf <tarfile>' to show you, at least, a long format type listing (accessbits links user group size date name), or better a way to list a formatted view of all the metadata associated with a file?

Hmm...interesting. Thanks!
Don't forget the "Compression options", see man pages. The most obvious being: -j -z tar ztvf yourfile.tar.gz tar jtvf yourfile.tar.bz2 -- /bengan

Compression is autodetected today.
The most obvious being: -j -z
tar ztvf yourfile.tar.gz tar jtvf yourfile.tar.bz2
