No, but the kernel certainly has a problem with it. It may be solved, if the exact cause is found, but the boot image will probably not be updated.
The problem occurs at an early stage of the installation process, long before the graphical interface appears with the prompts for language, keyboard, ....
As to your other clues/tips: being a naive user I decided not to try all these tests/tricks in order not to ruin my outdated, but working Leap 15.4.
You could try 15.5 instead of 15.6.
