Hi,
I just learned today from a KDE tool called "Discover". Bengt Gördén said "It helps users to find software they might want easily and quickly", and Daniel Morris posted a nice screenshot at <https://susepaste.org/60719239>
Well, here it doesn't work.
At first start, it asks for my PGP password to one of my identities - WHY?
I don't get that, but I suspect I may have vanquished kwallet previously (and I don't make that claim lightly).
Discover also reads your system repositories and checks on outstanding system updates, providing a nice browser to them too, and seems able to get authorisation from PackageKitD to apply the updates - that was a bit of a surprise as I run as normal user and admin as root in a shell, usually with zypper and sometimes YaST, so didn't expect Discover to be able to update without a nag for root's password.
Same error as root, but doesn't ask for PGP password.
Anyway, I type it, and after a little way, claims:
"unable to load applications, Please verify Internet connectivity".
Which is obviously absurd, there is internet connectivity, as proved by me sending emails.
Thinking aloud, I wonder if you need more of Plasma's config, like a proxy setup? I think Discover is reaching out to dynamically get the star ratings. The first time I ran Discover it took half a minute or so to populate the icons and grab the ratings, I'm back to dog-slow ADSL again so no surprise for the lag!
I don't have packagekit installed. If it is a dependency, the package doesn't claim it, and doesn't print an error message that says it needs some other library or package. Network is typical home setup, with fibre and a router, with fixed LAN IP, no proxy. No other program complains of "no network".
I'm using Leap 15.2 and XFCE.
Leap 15.2 with KDE Plasma. My desktop has been iteratively updated since about 13.1. I've also just installed on my laptop from zypper, with the 38 dependencies and it worked equally as well. Again Leap 15.2 & KDE Plasma (but I think I 'nuked & paved' for 15.0).
When started from terminal, this is what I get:
This will come as little consolation, but I get all those whines with the addition of four more:
... adding empty sources model QStandardItemModel(0x56143ea43530) org.kde.plasma.libdiscover: Couldn't find a category for "fwupd-backend" ** (process:13047): WARNING **: 13:54:03.465: Found icon of unknown type, skipping it: unknown ** (process:13047): WARNING **: 13:54:03.467: Found icon of unknown type, skipping it: unknown ** (process:13047): WARNING **: 13:54:03.467: Found icon of unknown type, skipping it: unknown took really long to fetch KNSBackend(0x56143fcc6c10, name = "/usr/share/knsrcfiles/aurorae.knsrc") ...
Check the journal log, there might be more clues there? It was informatively chatty when doing actual updates.
No, nothing there. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 15.2 x86_64 at Telcontar)
