From a friend I got the use of a HP USB compact DVD disc rewrite drive.
It is recognized without problem by his windows setup but at my Tumbleweed I see no activity.
Regardless which USB port you plug into? Does it have its own power supply, or require power from the USB port? Sometimes USB ports won't provide enough power for a mechanical external storage device.
How can I start activating this USB device?
It has an external power supply which I haven't yet used. Will try it out. Thanks for the tip.
A little late because I did not have the right transformer. But the external power supply did the trick. -- opensuse:tumbleweed:20180703 Qt: 5.11.1 KDE Frameworks: 5.47.0 - KDE Plasma: 5.13.2 - kwin 5.13.2 kmail2 5.8.2 - akonadiserver 5.8.2 - Kernel: 4.17.3-1-default -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-support+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-support+owner@opensuse.org
