Check that router sees device as an active connection.
Open Konsole (terminal) and as root do: ping -c 4 <ip address of epson>.
Thinking, "What's different?" I realized that yesterday I installed a TV recorder, an AVerMedia EzRecorder 130, which connects via HDMI between the modem and the TV set, and also connects to the Lan via a hard-wire connection from the router.
Well, of course, after I realized this, I disconnected the EZ recorder from the lan, and also pulled its power input line. Then I rebooted this machine from a power off condition. The scanner still does not work. In both cases--i.e., before I disconnected the recorder and after, the printer works, and pinging the ip address of the Epson produces a normal ping. Note that the ip address of the Epson is the same for the print function and the scan function. I reiterate: It still prints. Running nmap (nmap -sP 192.168.1.0/24) produces a listing which does not include the recorder; the listing does not change with the recorder disconnected, as above. I don't understand nmap well enough to set it to scan whatever ip the recorder may be on. Is it possible that the recorder lan connection sent something back to the computer via the router that has permanently changed some file? If so, how can I find the culprit and fix it?
Further information: A laptop running PCLOS Linux also is connected to the epson thru the lan, and scans perfectly. Just tested it. It has been connected all along, just as this TW machine has.
