you are right there it is I was missing out about. I think I even was thinking about some different kind of opensuse site, such as maybe it was the doc.opensuse.org that i couldnt find different language settings on.

The same drop down list is in exactly the same place on doc.opensuse.org.

On the opensuse home page, the drop down is confusingly at the bottom of the page! And the languages are listed in some strange arbitrary order, to confuse bears of little brain such as me. :(
