I'm in SE USA. I did traceroutes to cdn.opensuse.org (151.101.1.91) and download.opensuse.org (195.135.223.226) to see if the results suggest any reason for apparent sluggishness. Cdn resolved to Rome. Download resolved to Vienna. Why nothing on same continent, without an ocean in between? 23.82.143.211 is reported for mirror.mia11.us.leaseweb.net/opensuse, but that IP shows in Amsterdam. mirror.math.princeton.edu/pub/opensuse-full, which is expected to live in New Jersey, is 128.112.18.21, shows near San Francisco. ftp.ussg.iu.edu/linux/opensuse (156.56.247.193) is Indiana University, but shows in North Carolina. 91.193.113.70 in Nuernberg is returned for provo-mirror.opensuse.org!?!?! I've been using https://www.ipligence.com/geolocation to lookup IPs to match domains, which seems must be doing a lot of lying. What's the best cmdline utility to locate the physical location hosting any given IP? Is there any? Is there any way to determine which mirrors actually are nearby, or if any are? -- Evolution as taught in public schools is, like religion, based on faith, not based on science. Team OS/2 ** Reg.
