The latter is an actual valid method to backup / restore. I did not say that snapshot == backup. A good recent example of what a rollback can mean to a user was when user got hit with a broken PSU during upgrade. After replacing the PSU, the system was unaccessible at boot, rolling back ( via a USB boot ) returned it to a fully usable machine
