In any event I'd like to see it updated to include the PCRE engine or better the PCRE2 engine, as done by Debian and other distros.
I dont know how familiar you are with OBS.... Did you try to branch it and include PCRE2 in the build dependencies? (I did not look into the package, but thats probably the first thing to try.
