That's certainly a credible explanation and good advice; and I'll watch out for the trap in the future.
But, on its own, it doesn't quite take account of the fact that I reinstalled one of the systems because *none* of the three were working. Which is to say that the fault existed *before* any re-installation exposed the ESP to re-format. So part of the mystery remains .....
None worked when the main one failed because you did not edit "GRUB_DISTRIBUTOR=..." on each one, during the first installation (it is impossible), and you did not do it afterwards and then called yast bootloader with the timeout change trick. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E.
