[opensuse-summit] openSUSE Summit is ALMOST HERE!
Dear Ibel Alexander , WOW! So many months since we first came up with the idea of an openSUSE Summit to be held in North America and now the time is almost upon us. We've beaten our initial attendance estimates by over triple! In fact, pretty soon, we may have to close off registrations because we are currently at near capacity. If you have registered and are unable to attend the Summit, please let us know so we can free up more space for last minute registrations. We hope to see you at the Summit, but we also want to ensure that everyone has a chance to attend. ==Getting Ready== We urge you to be sure to visit http://summit/opensuse.org to familiarize yourself with the plans for the weekend. We've got lots of activities. If you are arriving by airport, we suggest you book a shuttle service to the hotel as hotel is not close to the airport. Visit the Location page for more information. And don't forget to download your Summit web badge. Put it on your website and show off to the world that you're going to the Summit! http://summit.opensuse.org/Summit-badges/ ==What to pack== Geekos are a relaxed community. We suggest comfortable wear. Depending on the time of year, it can get quite humid in Florida. T-shirts and jeans are acceptable. Both evening parties will be held outdoors, weather permitting. For the Friday night Poolside party, pack your swimsuit. We will have boat races in the pool and you just might get wet! For the Saturday night Luau, pull out that ugly Hawaiian shirt no one lets you wear. We don't mind! By the way, we're hosting a Geeko Jam Session on Saturday night. Anyone with a musical instrument can jump up and belt out the tunes with fellow Geekos. So pack that instrument before you leave home! ==Workshops== The Summit offers three workshops, all free!: Come a day early and you can attend the Linux Professional Institute's Exam Cram on Thursday afternoon at SUSECon. Then take the exam on Friday for only $99 (payable directly to LPI.) Friday afternoon, we offer a RPM Packaging workshop from 2 p.m. To 4 p.m. Saturday morning, we offer a How to work with open Build Service workshop from 10 a.m. to noon. Attend both the the Packaging and OBS workshops and you'll earn a free “I'm an OBS Guru” coffee mug. This is an exclusive gift that can only be earned, not given away. ==SUSECon== While SUSECon is a paid event, you can gain free access to SUSECon on Friday with your free Summit registration. You'll be able to check out the Technology Showcase exhibit hall and attend the closing keynote speeches from executives at SUSE and Dell. ==Other Cool Things== The openSUSE Summit opening ceremony begins at 5 p.m. on Friday. Meet SUSE Vice-President Michael Miller and openSUSE Board Member Andrew Wafaa. Afterwards, you'll get a copy of the recently-released openSUSE 12.2 DVD. Miller and Wafaa will stick around to sign your DVD for you. Join Stefano Maffulli, Technical Community Manager for OpenStack as he delivers the keynote address at 9 a.m. Saturday morning. He'll have some interesting tidbits on the state of cloud computing today. Geeko Lounge will be open all weekend. It's a place to relax and take a break from the busy day and meet our sponsors and fellow Geekos. The Summit hosts LUG DAY on Saturday to welcome the local Linux User Groups. We're dedicating a room exclusively for use by the LUGs. At the end of the day, LUG-ites will gather together for a long-overdue reunion in the room. And we at the Summit are working on a cool surprise just for LUGites! openSUSE Luncheon and General Meeting begins on Sunday at 12:00. This is the meeting to find out more about the current state of the openSUSE Project and discuss its direction. You're part of the Project, we want to hear from you! See you all next week!
