[softwaremgmt] zypper from SLES10SP1 for 10.1?
Hi, I'm not sure if this is the right list, but ... In SLES10SP1 there is finally zypper. Is it planned to bring this version to 10.1? I mean as an optional package via normal YOU mechanism - no additional repository. This would be great, since one could get rid of zmd in 10.1, too. Sorry, no, there are no such plans. There is unofficial build of zypper for 10.1, but an older version. zypper in SLE10 SP1 is basically 10.2 codebase version of zypper.

Why, because of rug? Stano -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-softwaremgmt+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-softwaremgmt+help@opensuse.org

I see. Isn't it easier to keep 10.1 and SLE10 in sync? OT: The kernel is also not in sync at the moment.

Ok, that explains the new SP1 "experience". Much better than before :-)

Well, one reason is the synchronisation between yast installation sources and zmd. It takes really long. On SLE10 SP1 you can get rid of it by deinstalling zmd (and depending packages) and use local repos for installation _and_ updates. And changing something in the installation sources is very quick. Every operation you do with rug _feels_ much slower than with zypper. I think rug itself is not the culprit. I think it is the zmd that slows rug down. So the speed measured by feeling (TM) is: zypper 10.2 and SLE10 SP1 fast zmd SLE10 SP1 quite fast zmd 10.1 with updates slow zmd 10.1 first shot very slow Thanks, Andreas -- Andreas Vetter Fakultaet fuer Physik und Astronomie Universitaet Wuerzburg

The kernel will be in sync again with the next update. zypper would have pulled in almost all of YAST, ZMD and likely also other things, and we decided not to risk it. I believe you can just uninstall 'rug' package then. YaST should handle that gracefully. Also, if your yast2-packager is version at least 2.13.114, you can try to use 'yast2 inst_source norug' Stano
