Well, one reason is the synchronisation between yast installation sources and zmd. It takes really long. On SLE10 SP1 you can get rid of it by deinstalling zmd (and depending packages) and use local repos for installation _and_ updates. And changing something in the installation sources is very quick. Every operation you do with rug _feels_ much slower than with zypper. I think rug itself is not the culprit. I think it is the zmd that slows rug down. I believe you can just uninstall 'rug' package then. YaST should handle that gracefully. Also, if your yast2-packager is version at least 2.13.114, you can try to use 'yast2 inst_source norug' Stano
