When a User changes his Password by means of his shell prompt, with the passwd command, the user cannot access anymore to his mail box by means of the IMAP server. This is the only server that does not get known of the change. Well, SuSE Linux 7.3 and when the password is changed by the Yast utility, everything works great. It seems that there is some script missing to be running. Which IMAP server?, there are several. Maybe the one you use has a password file of it's own, maybe it can be configured to use the system passwords through PAM. Or maybe it does and imap has some sort of password cache, what happens if a user changes his password on the shell and you restart the imap server?

That I find strange, in my opinion yast should not be messing with passwords other than the system password or is there a checkbox which allows it to do this?

sometimes "rcnscd restart" helps ;-) nscd = name service cache daemon caches login credentials from passwd file ( pam ) any many others... see /etc/nscd.conf for your config. hope it helps Walter Wilmer Geovanny wrote:
