I thing that a process hangs all the system.
Use top. Use top. Use top. If you don't do what we ask you, we can't help you. Also look at the "load" values and tell us (a screenshot (cut&paste) would be best).

John, For future reference, the iostat command is in the sysstat package. This package also has a command called sar, which keeps some amount general performance/load history. iptraf is in its own package. It show network connections--very handy tool. You should be able to find both of these package using the search command in YaST. I don't think either are a part of the base install.
I successfully installed the iptraf and iostat. iptraf is a sniffer isn't? ----- Original Message ----- From: "Brandon Hines" <brandon@2i.com> To: "John" <isofroni@cc.uoi.gr> Cc: <suse-security@suse.com> Sent: Tuesday, March 23, 2004 3:07 AM Subject: Re: [suse-security] My SL 9 PRO is getting so slow

iptraf is more of a connection tracker. It does not do full packet captures or decodes. If you would like a full sniffer try tcpdump (command line) or ethereal (gui). Again, search using YaST.
