[opensuse-security] Automatic update silently broken after removing zmd-updater, zen, and rug (OpenSUSE 10.2)
Hello everyone. Automatic weekly updates stopped working after I did a rpm -e zmd-updater zen rug for OpenSUSE 10.2 machines. If this is my fault, configuring (again) automatic update in yast should warn me that automatic updates will not work. Greetings Sven

Hello everyone.
Automatic weekly updates stopped working after I did a
rpm -e zmd-updater zen rug
for OpenSUSE 10.2 machines. If this is my fault, configuring (again) automatic update in yast should warn me that automatic updates will not work.

I believe you will get more help on this on the mail list, because your question doesn't seem to be much security related. Automatic updates are dangerous: in 10.3 it removed the full update engine last week. Have a look here: <http://opensuse-community.org/Repositories/10.2#Disable_ZMD> - -- Cheers, Carlos E. I am still trying to get automatic updates working again. The help text for "automatic online update" in yast tells me that this will be done with a daily cron job. (BTW: this sounds strange because I selected "weekly" updates.) In which file is this cron job to be written? Sven

Install the "zypper" RPM. Run the YAST module that sets up automated updates and change them a bit (or disable/enable). This should pick up that you want to use zypper instead of rug and then write a working cronjob. Thanks. This solved my problem. The cron job is now correctly written into /etc/cron.d/yast2-online-update (Before, this file seem to have contained rug instead of zypper, as Marcus said.) Ciao Sven
