I setup an encrypted FS via the loopback device on a Suse 8.2 system, and a SLES8 system, and didn't have too many troubles. I don't think it was the CryptoAPI, but I don't think it was named either. :-) Getting the software and making it work wasn't too hard, all the RPMs needed were on the distro CDs. There were a few rough parts that had me scratching my head, but by reading very slowly and carefully plus a little trial and error, I got it working.
