i use sles 9 with yast to edit bind. but there i am not able to make a reverse lookup! (PTR) I haven't used the click-click tools yet, but you need to create a zone like 0.0.10.in-addr.arpa. if your subnet is 10.0.0.x. There you should be able to create the PTR records.

this isn't a security question ... nonetheless...is your name server authoritative for the in-addr.arpa zone to which you want to add an entry? If not its a pointless exercise nobody will ask your name server for the name.

sorry, that's right. i tried in suse-linux@suse.com but there are mass-mailings that my story was not recognized. and i know that here are more server admins than in the other newsgroup i tried :-)

well, you can't say that without knowing more deepness. we use a spam filter which does this lookup. (don't know why, but that's the fact) for our zone my name server ins authoritative for that. so i wanted to add this zone to bind (with IPs written backwards) my configuration for bind works now WITH reverse lookup! (manual edition) if i use yast for editing, there is no way to pick a PTR for a zone. cheers, andrew

yes, for now, the manual edition is the one solution !!! the bind module in the yast isn't very functionally !!! for example: not is possible config the multi-views in the SLES 9.0 !!!! :-/ mmm... who know in the SLES 9.1, the problem can be resolved !!! bye -- Victor Hugo dos Santos Linux Counter #224399 Puerto Montt - Chile No lo hice, nadie me vio hacerlo, no pueden probar nada. -Bart Simpson
