hi, does somebody know if/when the kernel source for the recently updated k_deflt-2.2.19 SuSE-Kernel is available/will be released ? I've searched the ftp-servers with no result. thanx jan meyer

That's the "inofficial" place, yes. Get /pub/suse/i386/update/6.3/kernel/RPMs/lx_* All of the 6.3, 6.4, 7.0 and 7.1 distribution kernels are built from the same source. The hardlinks for the 6.4, 7.0 and 7.1 lx_suse* rpm packages are being created in these minutes. The full announcement is ready and will be out by today, if nothing spits at me again.

Hello List I downloaded Kernel 2.2.19 RPMs for SuSE 7.1, but after install over yast, the machine did not boot again. maybe I missed something.. Is there any place on SuSE Homepage, where the steps of an "officical SuSE" Kernel Update are described ? Regards M. Rauter

Yes, you missed the following two commands: mk_initrd lilo

Roman's preliminary announcement did contain detailed instructions how to do the upgrade. To solve your situation, do the following: Boot from the installation CD and enter the following: manual s now load the modules you need to access your hardware choose "start installation" / "boot installed system" enter the name of your root partition and the system will come up in single user mode. Enter "mk_initrd && lilo" and reboot.
