setup of openldap2 to replace nis
What is the proper way to setup an openldap2 server to replace NIS? server and clients SuSE 8.2? I have seen the openldap2 CLIENT setup under YAST, but don't see anything for server. Is there a way you don't have to have a password stored in a file? The first is a howto for mandrake but it shows how all the stuff works. The second URL has much more docs concerning your question.
Is there a way you don't have to have a password stored in a file? I dont think so. All passwords will be stored in your ldap-tree.
Cheers, Michael -- It's a book about a Spanish guy called Manual, you should read it. -- Dilbert
If your interested in this and haven't worked with LDAP before you should also check out the Oreilly book LDAP System Administration http://www.oreilly.com/catalog/ldapsa/ it has about as easy to follow step by step instructions on how to set this type of authentication as I've seen. Shawn

There's an LDAP howto on linuxdoc that I remember being helpful. Also, check out: http://www.padl.com/OSS/MigrationTools.html
