...okay any lids users I would love some help here. I added the lids patch To the linux source I do the following Make menuconfig Go through and add some things that I need. Make dep Make clean Make modules Make bzImage Then run lilo from the bzImage When I start I get a lot of errors referring to modules.dep not found. Now am I not doing something in the commands right, or am I not picking the right modules through menuconfig. The last thing I find is that the route program does not run Any help would be great. Mike
The actual error is Modprobe: Can't open dependencies file /lib/modules/2.4.4/modules.dep (No such file or directory) And how can I take the current kernel settings and just add the patch make no changes to the current kernel and remake the image. Would I just Do the patch Make dep Make clean Make modules Make bzImage then config lilo to look at that file ? -----Original Message----- From: Michael Garabedian [mailto:mikejr@emergyscorp.com] Sent: Wednesday, March 13, 2002 7:33 PM To: suse-security@suse.com Subject: [suse-security] Lids... ...okay any lids users I would love some help here. Sounds like you forgot to install the modules: make modules_install depmod -a gets run at boot.

If you are currently running a SuSE kernel just cd /usr/src/linux && zcat /proc/config.gz > /usr/src/linux/.config make oldconfig make menuconfig (and change whatever you need to) make bzImage modules modules_install cp arch/<your arch>/boot/bzImage /boot/vmlinuz-new cp System.map /boot/System.map-<VERSION>.<PATCHLEVEL>.<SUBLEVEL> Add an entry to /etc/lilo.conf and /sbin/lilo If you are using initrd on the new kernel you'll also need to run /sbin/mk_initrd before running lilo. -- -ckm
