kdm - shows all user on login screen
Hi List, is there any thing I can do to suppress the listing of all system known users on the logon screen of kdm. I think it is not a good idea to give the people a clue as wich users they might login. thx andy -- ------------------------------- mailto:Andreas.Tirok@beusen.de fon: +49 30 549932-37 fax: +49 30 549932-21

In general, this is not a secret. "cat /etc/passwd" or "ls /home" show this information too. Peter -- Peter Münster GMV - Université de Rennes 1 Campus de Beaulieu - Bât. 11B 35042 Rennes Cedex Tel : +33/0 - 2 99 28 67 51 Fax : +33/0 - 2 99 28 16 74 http://w3pm.stormloader.com/

Not on my shell server. I removed world read permissions from /etc/passwd and ls /home returns "permission denied" to any shell user. I found that removing world read permissions from /etc/passwd causes many problems, but after much trial and error, I found a way to solve enough of the problems to satisfy my needs on this shell server. Are you saying all names in the passwd file are displayed or just the real users. If ALL names in /etc/passwd are shown then I bet your using kdm2. If you just don't want any displayed there is a section in rc.config to let you change what is displayed. Run SuSEconfig after chaning it. This is the section to look for in rc.config: # # space separated list of users for which icons should be shown in KDM # if empty, then take system defaults # KDM_USERS="" Don't forget to run SuSEconfig after changes. -- Mark Hounschell dmarkh@cfl.rr.com

Just set in the kdmrc (it's at /opt/kde/share/config/kdmrc on my system) in the section [KDM] UserView=false Ulf ____________________________________ Ulf Leichsenring Lufthansa Systems AS GmbH Schützenwall 1 D-22844 Norderstedt Tel.: +49-40-5070-7859 Fax: +49-40-5070-7880 mailto:uleichsenring@lhsystemsas.de Internet: http://www.lhsystemsas.de
