Dear List, today I noticed that I have a network device sit0. It is not listed by ifconfig, but if I look at /proc/net/dev it is mentioned. Is ist SOmething security related or can I ignore it. Ciao ;-) Robert Rottscholl - DE
Hi Robert,

SIT is the abbreviation for "Simple Internet Transition". What it does is encapsulating IPv4 in IPv6 packets. AFAIK this pseudo device is part of IPv6 support. Appearently your discovery is not security related.

It would have been as easy as typing "ifconfig sit0" to see that it goes the other way round: IPv6 in IPv4. Regards Henning Hucke -- "I like your game but we have to change the rules."
