Setting up a basic Firewall - SuseFirewall/IPChains ?
Hi, I am trying to set-up a basic Firewall scenario using 6.4 to try and further promote the use of Linux within our organization - I have been reading through IPchains and the Firewall package and am getting confused as to the best/easiest way to proceed and would appreciate any help. The scenario is very basic and as follows - Internet ¦ -----------------------------x.x.x.0/24 ¦ ¦ ¦ ¦ (x.x.x.10/24) (x.x.x.1/24) Suse 6.4 DNS Server (y.y.1.10/16) ¦ ¦ Mail Server (y.y.1.1/16) The Suse box has two network cards one obviously to the internet (with a DNS router on the same network - legal Internet addresses). The second card is internal and connected to a mail server running SMTP. The Suse box needs to only allow SMTP connections from the Internet to the internal mail server as well as DNS queries made by the mail server to the DNS server. Obviously SMTP traffic needs to be allowed out from the Mail server although no protection as such needs to be put in place to protect the box from the internal network as this is only a test network. Many thanks in advance Simon
I think the easiest way would be for you to use the firewals package that comes with suse. INstall it and then edit the file /etc/rc.config.d/rc.firewall.
