Inoculate IT - SLES7
Hi list: I want to know if someone have experience with the antivir InoculateIT of CA with SLES7. I am trying to install it but I am getting this error (see bellow), I was trying to jump some SO versions checking in the Ino scripts (gzipes in the package) but it not works, I see that it software its certified for SuSE 7.0 with kernel 2.2.14/16. Any experiences or clues for it. TIA Tomas ******* # ./InoInstall ..... ..... ..... InoculateIT has been detected in /opt/eTrust. How does the install script check for the OS version - eg does it check /etc/issue for a string etc ? Perhaps modifying the file it checks to be what it expects will help the installation ? - I had this issue with some Trend products for Linux that were "supported" on Red Hat and had to be modified for SuSE. IIRC ENF (as well as the on-access virus scanning feature) has been implemented as binary-only kernel module, which require certain kernel releases. Binary-only kernel modules are just crap, imho. Btw 1, the command line utility (inocmd32) refuses to run when _not_ called as "root". That's one of the reasons why AMaViS does not support InoculateIT 6, as AMaViS itself runs as user "vscan" (at least since SuSE Linux 7.3) [1]. Btw 2, it seems all Linux version have a (much) worser detection rate than the Win* version. See http://www.virusbtn.com/vb100/archives/tests.xml?200204 and http://www.virusbtn.com/vb100/archives/products.xml?table (the same scenario happend way back in the good ol' days as the first Win* version have been released. The first Win* versions missed viruses the DOS version detected). best regards, Rainer Link [1] probably sudo may help. But I personally won't use it here. -- Rainer Link | Student of Computer Networking link@suse.de | University of Applied Sciences, Furtwangen, Germany rainer.w3.to | http://www.computer-networking.de/
Hi Rainer Link, Hi Tomas Carmen,

I'm using Inoculate IT for linux in combination with odeia (AV-Gateway)
and standalone started via Cronjob. It is not inocmd32, seams to be
for Windows it is inocucmd. You can get it free under /pub/getbbs of
CA's ftp-server. I'm running it unser Suse 7.3
It is working good and protects me for the actual worm curving through
the net.
Regards,
Ruprecht

That's actually InoculateIT 4.0 for Linux, which is no longer supported and the scan engine itself is "out-of-date" IIRC. I was refering to the current version 6.x, which is not available via FTP, but only on request. The command line utility in 4.0 was called inocucmd (and is supported by AMaViS), in 6.x it's called inocmd32. best regards, Rainer Link -- Rainer Link | Student of Computer Networking link@suse.de | University of Applied Sciences, Furtwangen, Germany rainer.w3.to | http://www.computer-networking.de/
Hi Rainer Link, you are ever learning. Thanks about the information of Inoc.. 6
The command line utility in 4.0 was called inocucmd (and is supported by AMaViS),
Not only it is also supported in qmail-scanner, odeia and
QMVC from Erwin Hoffmann (after suggest from myself).

Ruprecht

What terrible, yes my InoculateIT is 6 version, I am trying changing the kernel to 2.2.19 on SLES7 but it dnot work, the scripts are calling to "uname" to chek kernel version but for your info it 'll not work. I 'll try with SuSE pro 7.0 Thanks for all -- Tomas Carmen R. Sinux S.A.C. - SuSE Linux Peru telef.: +51-1-4416655 http://www.sinux.com.pe http://www.suse.com/latam/

Possible you change to the version 4 and take inocucmd without running
in kernel. I use it as normal programm / with odeia and it works fine.

Tomas, i had some experience with a 2.4 kernel and InterScan VirusWall this product still only runs on 2.2.x kernels. Best regards, Peter.
