(he asks about it). We had this already discussed on some mailing list (maybe on suse-linux or so, I cannot remember). It's used by mc (midnight commander). It reads the cwd (current work directory) to file descriptor 6 (catched by mc), and stops the shell (mc paints it's windows after that). Before mc issues a shell comannd, it kill -CONT the shell. Nice trick, ain't? The PROMPT_COMMAND is avaluated by the shell before each prompt display, that is after each command. So the shell stops itself after the first command.
hm ...
This is an english only list.

It's simple: this list is international. Most of us speak english, and not german (or very bad german).

Nay yeah, you can ask in german but most won't understand or answer. Also this list is run for free by suse and people like me answer for free out of the goodness of our hearts. Most often you will get a helpful answer, so try to keep this all in perspective. If you want to ask questions in german I have reasonable consulting fees (I probably won't understand them, but that's beside the point ;).
Gruss, Juergen

Hi Steffen, Thanks for your answer and the service of translating my text into english. I'm not so often in this group, but have it for information, so I forgot to write in english, sorry for that. Also thanks for the short explaining of this entry in my history, now I know and do understand what it is and where it comes from. Again thanks and sorry Thomas
