These are all instant messaging packages; pidgin is a client, libpurple is a set of libraries that speak many protocols, and finch is a set of simple scripts to use libpurple directly. (In spite of the name, I doubt libPURPLE decodes Japanese diplomatic messages.) We wouldn't install these; for us, N/A.
