Hi, I had the following message to the suse-security mailing list. Is there anybody who can help me? I do not want to remotely log into my home system as root. It locks if I login with my use name. Thanks for the help Alex Hi, I have a Suse 7.3 with Susefirewall activated at home which I can access from workplace using ssh. My problem is my home PC locks up if I connect using my user name and try to change directory but not when I login as root. I get the same problem when I do ssh localhost on my PC. Could anybody give me a solution to this. Hi, i deon't certain that i understand you correctly but you can turn off the permit for root login (/etc/ssh/sshd_config -> PermitRootLogin -> no). Mit freundlichen Gru?en, -- Timo Dotzauer

What do you mean by 'lock up'? What happens when? Could it be, that the user has a restricted shell, which doesn't allow a cd command? And - second idea - could it be that your actions create some syslog-output, but syslog is blocking (perhaps logging to a second machine, which is not there)? I'd like to help your vision with my blindness, but please be more specific. .o) Michael - -- Michael Zimmermann (Vegaa Safety and Security for Internet Services) <zim@vegaa.de> phone +49 89 6283 7632 hotline +49 163 823 1195 Key fingerprint = 1E47 7B99 A9D3 698D 7E35 9BB5 EF6B EEDB 696D 5811 -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.0.6 (GNU/Linux) Comment: For info see http://www.gnupg.org iD8DBQE8swuA72vu22ltWBERAvATAJ0QKmTYYQj2Nxkj6khSqAY37QF+sQCeLi3u PSSql7UJiEU6aE7tzXqX6y8= =0QcT -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----
By lock up I mean my system freezes just like I'm using some windows OS and the only thing I can do is turn off the PC. I tried ssh localhost and logged into my machine as the user name but I still get the same thing. This however does not happen when I login as root. Michael Zimmermann wrote:

perhaps some files in your home dir have the wrong permissions. Make sure you only "su" to or login as root if you really need it. Boris ---
Hi I have a doubt about ucdsnmp. I'm trying to install a dynamic loadable snmp agent. According to the snmpd.conf man page, this kind of agent can be installed using the "dlmod" command. When I try to load this module, however, the snmp daemon says it doesn't understand the "dlmod" keyword. Why is the SuSE ucdsnmp compiled without this feature? Some security issue? I tried to generate the ucdsnmp package again with dlmod enabled ( adding ucd-snmp/dlmod to the--with-mib-modules section) from the rpm source package but the dlmod keyword was still not available. May someone please help me? I REALLY need this feature... I'm running SuSE 7.3 and I tried both the original ucdsnmp(4.2.1-73) and the newer one(4.2.1-79) Thanks, Luciano
