hi all... over the last 3 major SuSE Linux releases, the 2.4 kernel has become the default kernel.. for performance reasons, i have certain services the i run on the 2.2.19 kernel because they are much faster than when i use the 2.4 kernel.... i am running this 2.2.19 kernel on the SuSE 8.0 release, and i have no problems at all.. since the default 2.2.19 kernel that comes with earlier versions of the SuSE, up to SuSE Linux 7.3 i guess, has no support for some options, i had to recompile the kernel using the lx_sus22 RPM from the SuSE FTP server that has the SuSE-customised 2.2.19 kernel sources..... now, i would like to know if there are going to be any compatibility, security or design issues if we continue to use the 2.2.19 kernel with later versions of SuSE Linux, including SuSE Linux 8.1, without SuSE giving that much support on the 2.2 kernel in general..?... an example of the problem would be where the ReiserFS file system has a 2.2.19 "reiserfs.o" module compiled, but SuSE Linux 8.1 has shipped with a higher or modified version of the "mkreiserfs" utility.. what happens then..?.. all help appreciated... __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
