Re: [suse-security] Firewall2 blocks local internet traffic
i have the same problem. the only hint i can give is to stop and start all instances of firewall2 ( init, setup and final ) via ip-up in /etc/ppp.
Well, that (and what followed) makes me assume they had a reason to include a new ip-up script in their rpm.... if you check the exact name of the firewall2 rpm (rpm-qa | grep firewall) or something aftzer installing and have the files listed (rpm -ql SuSEfirewall2-1.7-25) as you probably know, you see there is a new ip-up in /usr/share/doc/packages/SuSEfirewall2/ip-up ... if you copy that to your /etc/ppp/-directory it will work out just fine. Thanks alot for your quick answer - it made me suspicious about that new ip-up!
Hi All... Maybe it is offtopic, but according to last sec-announce about glib it is little bit security related.. I have "old" SuSE 6.3 - and now I would like to update it to 7.3. Is it possible to make it directly - or I have to make some additional steps for it. I do not want to install everything from scratch. Regards Marcin Gryszczuk

IMHO it is on topic as the only reason you are updating is to retain your security support. But I will defer to ckm and move this thread elsewhere if he so rules.

In the 7.3 version of the Reference Manual you will find Chapter 12 has an extensive discussion of updating. It also describes differences from 6.4 to 7.3 (I think 6.3 is very similar to 6.4 but I am sure you will finsd a changelog somewhere on the net.) Is this your first update? Yast and Yast2 both have update tools (yast2 boots directly from the CD-ROM.) Years ago I updated my home machine from 5.3 to 6.3 with yast. This IMO is a much bigger change than 6.3 to 7.3 and it went very smoothly. I did not update my home PC from 6.3 to 7.3 but instead installed 7.3 from scratch (actually very easy when most of my apps are in the 7.3 Professional CD distro.) However, as far as I can see, most of the changes from 6.3 to 7.3 are optional improvements, so if you follow the advice in Chapter 12, and you set aside some time to update and test your config files, my guess is the update will go very smoothly. SECURITY 101 - don't forget to have a tested backup of your data. Regards, dproc
