Fwd: Re: [suse-security] Windows versus linux

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi, here some of my personal experiences with small home- and office Networks: 1. A longtime Windows-user tried to install a home-network with an XP-Workstation as T-DSL-Router and another Win-98-Workstation, he failed to establish routing and had real problems with filesharing. 2. Someone who in my opinion is real good in MS-Systems failed to install Win-2000-Server because he didn't know how to handle the config-files. 3. Ever tried to install Win-XP on a 486??? (i have a 486 running als Mailserver, proxy, firewall, router, ... quite well since over 130 days, it would be longer if i hadn't a power failure) 4. Win-Users have the same problems with KDE and the Windows-Desktop 5. My sister never touched a computer until she was 20, she works quite well with KDE, my mother as well. 6. Every user who can install a Win-Box could install a Linux-Box without problems. That doesn't mean he can configure neither the Win- nor the Linux-box. I think there are nor argument against or for linux or windows but the price and the possibility tom proof there are no backdoors of opensource. greetz philipp. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.0.6 (GNU/Linux) Comment: For info see http://www.gnupg.org iD8DBQE+lWlilBdrLPB9Ax4RAmb4AJwI/cIApkEtEQyB0Rnd2tQoYST1KwCgk2m9 I1ypJiJEE7/32fVVllSnclE= =8oZG -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----

Absolutely right! have a look here: http://193.175.22.77/bilders/Netzwerke2002/windows2000/winxp.html I´m right now coming from two clients: on the first I wanted to install a Agfa SnapScan for a client in a ADS; the agfa only works when you´re giving administrative rights to the user locally - but it costs us a day working about it to find that out. on the other windows-2000-machine, new installed, all the latest driver and-so-on updated, I wanted to install a UBS HP 1200 with the assistant, saying. "No printers were detected". ok, I installed it by hand, and now it works - but for how long time? my collegue lately deplugged a UPS from a win-2k-server and plugged it in another USB-Slot - suddenly the server was saying: "There is a conflict between hardwareadress and - so on." plugging to the other USB-Slot, then restarting again, everything´s fine again - well, Windows is a very stable, fine and - I don t know the word in english - mature? - sytem .. mo´funny jokes about it? greetings --

mo´funny jokes about it?
the handling for windows is like safest sex: look donot touch :-) and the difference between windows and linux is: in windows everything works automatically and fine, except for the parts that are broken, in linux nothing is working without intervening except for the automatic parts. -- --- Engelbert Gruber -------+ SSG Fintl,Gruber,Lassnig / A6410 Telfs Untermarkt 9 / Tel. ++43-5262-64727 ----+
