SuSE security community, I just updated the glibc source, devel, and profile packages on a SuSE 7.2 server via Yast1. I encountered the following problems: 1. /sbin/ldconfig generates the following error "usr/lib/libexpat.so.1 is not a symbolic link" 2. The Apache server will no longer start with mod_auth_nds included. When I remove the reference to this module from /etc/httpd/suse_loadmodule.conf and /etc/httpd/suse_addmodule.conf I can start the server. Could this module be incompatible with the new glibc packages? Matt Hubbard
SuSE security community,
I just updated the glibc source, devel, and profile packages on a SuSE 7.2 server via Yast1. I encountered the following problems:
1. /sbin/ldconfig generates the following error "usr/lib/libexpat.so.1 is not a symbolic link"
2. The Apache server will no longer start with mod_auth_nds included. When I remove the reference to this module from /etc/httpd/suse_loadmodule.conf and /etc/httpd/suse_addmodule.conf I can start the server.
Could this module be incompatible with the new glibc packages?
Negative. The glibc packages are exactly the same as the ones that were installed before, with the exception of some routines in the globbing functions. /usr/lib/libexpat.so.1 is from package expat. Please reinstall this package, then run ldconfig again.

What's up with the kernel in suse/i386/update/7.3/kernel/2.4.16-20011220/ directory on the suse ftp server? I haven't seen any announcement regarding this one. Are we supposed to upgrade or not? Does it fix anything important? Selcuk

It fixes a problem in the elf-loader of the kernel that can cause the kernel to crash by a normal user. The announcement will be released as soon as another problem has been fixed (became known a few days ago, I'm lacking more detais for the moment). The directory will become obsolete then.
