Searchable, ok, I didin't get the point. Mads Martin Joergensen built the new lists server for our mailing lists. He was also busy with building a search engine, but it turned out that the search engine indexing throttles the lists server so much that we'd have to pay for the s-engine with a loss of performance in delivering the mail. We can deliver many thousands of mails per minute, and the lists are exceptionally fast, thanks to the tuning efforts of Mads. Thanks, Roman. -- - - | Roman Drahtmüller <draht@suse.de> // "Caution: Cape does | SuSE GmbH - Security Phone: // not enable user to fly." | Nürnberg, Germany +49-911-740530 // (Batman Costume warning label) | - -

probably my browser has a problem and does not show it correctly. I was more thinking about the option to enter a search string like it is possible e.g. with the proftpd or securityfocus archives. Or like SuSEs SDB. So if the original poster had searched for "ftpd" he would have seen all the prior discussions and conclusions and that had saved him and us a lot of time (and bandwidth). I know the SuSE people do a great job and have a lot of work and bandwidth is expensive, i do not ask for it, it is just an item on my wishlist ;). To get back to the topic: wasn´t there a project for a kernel level ftpd? And: I found a SuSE security announcement from June 27th 2000 from Thomas Biege regarding a possible root compromise in wu-ftpd < 2.6.0-121 with the recommendation to use the "audited 2.4er version". Is this 2.4 version the one someone referenced here bevore, that had no security issues in the last about 30 months? TIA mike
