Well, obviously you should install _only_ the update kernel that applies to your system, not all of them. If you don't understand what you are doing it is most likely better to use YaST Online-Update. You only want _one_ kernel! Which one are you running? 'uname -r' should give you the answer. Then apply the appropriate package. What does 'rpm -qa|grep k_' show? It looks like somewhere along the way you forced RPM to install all four kernels on the same system. That is wrong. You need to uninstall all but one of them and upgrade that one. Best regards, Arjen
Ok... # rpm -qa|grep k_ k_deflt-2.4.18-58 # rpm -qa|grep ker kernel-source-2.4.18.SuSE-279 but I have read in another message that vers. 8.0 does not need update, can be? Raùl

You should read the security announcement. Mainly it's "rpm -Uhv --nodeps --force fileUpdateKernel.rpm" and then reboot. But you really should read the installation instructions in the security announcement, it answers all questions. thomas -- Just because the message may never be received does not mean it is not worth sending.
rpm -Fhv kernel.rpm should be ok also. This should run mkinitrd (to create the initial ramdisk containig the kernel-modules needed for accassing the root-device) and a lilo if lilo is your bootloader. -- Eat, sleep and go running, David Huecking.
