after installing the updated aaa_base packet on my SuSE 6.4 system, xlock does not unlock the screen anymore because it rejects any (correct) password. Loging in with the normal password works for login, telnet, slogin etc., but not for xlock.
Perhaps the update removed the read permission for group shadow from /etc/shadow. Then xlock (which is probably setgid shadow) is no longer able to verify the password. Try running SuSEconfig to reset the permissions to the values specified in /etc/permissions* or change them manually with chown and chmod.
