Hello all, However not directly a security (only sniffing) question maybe you've an answer ready. My Linux box is acting as a router and has no monitor attached to it (console) so on reboot I'm not able to follow startup of the services when entering runlevel 2. Is there an easy way to redirect these messages into a file? Thanx, Peter
when entering runlevel 2. Is there an easy way to redirect these messages into a file? Have you ever tried dmesg it shows all of the boot messages you can scroll up the screen using Shift-PAGEUP. or if you use dmesg, you can also use dmesg|less, but dmesg does only show kernel messages, not the output of the init-scripts. i'd also like to redirect output of initscripts to a file for all my servers i can't reach because they are far away :)

Then do what everybody else does in your situation and use a serial console for your server(s) hooked up to a second machine or a concentrator. Alternatively edit the boot scripts to tee(1) their output to whereever you want it to go (when you're lucky there's already a single output routine used by all the scripts for their purposes). virtually yours 82D1 9B9C 01DC 4FB4 D7B4 61BE 3F49 4F77 72DE DA76 Gerhard Sittig true | mail -s "get gpg key" Gerhard.Sittig@gmx.net -- If you don't understand or are scared by any of the above ask your parents or an adult to help you.
