if possible use SuSEfirewall5.1 it does it

i've just started to get comfortable with iptables, so i don't want to go back to ipchains again.

or else get it look at the lines setting LANG and copy these lines over

i've found the following lines in /sbin/SuSEfirewall2: export LANGUAGE=english export RC_LANG=en_US export LANG=en_US what are these variables good for? do they modify the behaviour of ifconfig?

or donot let root take care of LANG settings there is a pc.sonfig entry for this.

since root starts SuSEfirewall2, this is exactly what happens. do you suggest to remove the lines from the script? regards, and thanx for the answers! albert
