Hi, I installed the suse_firewallscript two weeks ago and it works fine. But i get a dynamic IP from my Provider and so i cannot a static-IP in my rcfirewall. This is a part of my bootmassage snip starting Firewall Initialization: ppp0: error fetching interface information: Device not found ppp0: error fetching interface information: Device not found Warning: faulty interface information for ppp0. No interfaces active! exiting ... failed Master Resource Control: Failed services in runlevel 2: firewall_setup I don`t like this. What can i do? Are you using SuSE 6.3? At least up to SuSE 6.2 one possibility was to put your firewall rules in "/etc/ppp/ip-up". Maybe that'll work.

Get the latest firewals package from SuSE's ftp server. It is called V1.4, and is improved over what is on the 6.3 CD, with a better rc.firewall config file. Do not start the firewall when you boot up the machine, but after you have ppp running (wvdial?) and ppp0 has a dynamic address. Thanks to a friend, I recently learned the following: Make 2 files in the /etc/ppp directory, one called ip-up.local and one called ip-down.local. Put one line in ip-up.local that reads /sbin/init.d/firewall start and one line in ip-down.local that reads /sbin/init.d/firewall stop The firewall will then start and stop when needed and have the correct dynamic IP numbers.
