RE: AW: [suse-security] Fou4s - Fast OnlineUpdate for SuSE 0.1.0
I don't know about 8, but with 7.3 you can use YaST2 from a CLI, too! regards, Geordon -----Original Message----- From: Ken Schneider [mailto:kschneider@rtsx.com] Sent: Tuesday, April 16, 2002 2:40 PM Cc: SuSE-Security Subject: Re: AW: [suse-security] Fou4s - Fast OnlineUpdate for SuSE 0.1.0
Sorry, but from my first 8.0 installation on a test system I learned: no more /etc/rc.config, everything went to /etc/sysconfig/* . I think this was the (last) cause for the beloved yast1 to disappear.
But this is off topic...

yast1 was great (simpler) for text based admin work (no X running). Somewhat like using a command line vs. GUI tool. -- Ken Schneider

You could do that in 7.1. But YaST2 doesn't work well on low-end machines, because it's so big. I had to increase my swap to 128M to get it to work on my firewall, which was a major PITA. I think I'm probably going to have to go to Slack for low-end machines; RH and SuSE are focussing too much on today's desktop behemoths. -- Alan Hadsell If brute force doesn't work, you aren't using enough.
Well talking about gui's
Yes they are nice. But on server I never install X and all other
services which I don't need. I think we have to ask SuSe to make a yast1
replacement

I'm currently testing Gentoo Linux for just this reason. For servers, SuSE and my company are parting company. Sadly...
