Hi Stefan, Per chance did you check your /etc/modules.conf ?? =:`) If not, do it, because this could be the origin of your problem. Maybe you can find embedded on it the "^Pöÿ¿`" garbage you see. Yup, checked both /etc/modules.conf and the modules.dep file. Both seem normal. I think I've found it though. I've found three occasions, and all three are preceded by the following message: kernel: nmap uses obsolete (PF_INET,SOCK_PACKET) It seems that an nmap call is generating some garbage. Stefan
