Hello, to all.. does anybody know, why sendmail (8.10.x) needs this line in /etc/sendmail.cf DaemonPortOptions=Port=587, Name =MSA, M=E with a < telnet hostip 587 > i get a a connection to the estmp service, but why. I think it only has to run on port 50 ? The IANA assignments say that 587 (tcp and udp) are for "submission," whatever that means. -- Ray Simard ray.simard@sylvan-glade.com PGP key ID: 0x7599038C ldap://certserver.pgp.com

From the sendmail release notes: "sendmail implements RFC 2476 (Message Submission), e.g., it can now listen on several different ports.Use: O DaemonPortOptions=Name=MSA, Port=587, M=E to run a Message Submission Agent (MSA); this is turned on by default in m4-generated .cf files; it can be turned off with FEATURE(`no_default_msa')." Here's a URL for RFC 2476: http://www.cis.ohio-state.edu/htbin/rfc/rfc2476.html Hope this helps! -- Ray Simard ray.simard@sylvan-glade.com PGP key ID: 0x7599038C ldap://certserver.pgp.com "The greatest dangers to liberty lurk in insidious encroachment by men of zeal, well-meaning but without understanding."
