RE: [suse-security] MD5 Passwords.
In /etc/login.defs ... set MD5_CRYPT_ENAB to yes (if the line is #commented, uncomment it) ----- Mensaje original ----- De: "Normando Marcolongo" <normando@studenti.ing.uniroma1.it> Para: <suse-security@suse.com> Enviado: martes, 07 de marzo de 2000 12:38 Asunto: [suse-security] MD5 Passwords.
How can I enable MD5 passwords on SuSE 6.3?
Thanks in advance!
Normando.

This directive doesn't appear in man login.defs... so I didn't test. Now I've tested... and: configuration error... etc. about the new line inserted. Maybe suse's package simply don't support it! VERY BAD! Here again the question:

No, it isn't bad. Use PAM. Bye, Thomas -- Thomas Biege, SuSE GmbH, Schanzaeckerstr. 10, 90443 Nuernberg E@mail: thomas@suse.de Function: Security Support & Auditing "lynx -source http://www.suse.de/~thomas/thomas.pgp | pgp -fka" Key fingerprint = 09 48 F2 FD 81 F7 E7 98 6D C7 36 F1 96 6A 12 47

Kukuk has already answered... half way bad.

But Thomas is right. We use PAM. If you don't like our default PAM modules, try some of the other PAM modules. This is how PAM works, if you don't like one authenticate method, use another one without the need to recompile all other applications.
