Hello List I'm using amavis with antivir (h+bedv) on 8.1. Today my update-cronjob delivered the following: ---------------------snip-------------------------------------------------- AntiVir has an update problem. A newer version of the following file(s) is available, however your license will not work correctly with the new version. You probably need to renew your license. --> /usr/lib/AntiVir/antivir --> /usr/lib/AntiVir/antivir.vdf AntiVir has NOT been updated. ---------------------snip----------------------------------------------------- I've checked the antivir-website, but haven't found anything about a new license... Is this just tactics and I'll have to go buy SuSE 8.2, or can I resolve this problem somehow? Sorry if I'm addressing the wrong list, but I don't feel like subscribing to yet another one just for this question. Kind regards Markus -- Blue-shifted: the only way to travel.

I think your license is expired and you have to buy a new one for the next year. Regards Martin

Well, great. That means I'll HAVE to buy 8.2, since the license is about twice the price of SuSE 8.2 pro... ;-) Thanks for your help Markus -- Who is "General failure," and why is he reading my disk?

have a look at www.free-av.de There is a version of AntiVir which is free for personal use. I don't know if you can use it but I wanted to say it... Martin
Yah, I've just seen that, too. But on www.antivir.de you have the possibility to register for free and to receive a license file that is valid for a year. I've just registered , we'll see... Thanks for your help, everyone On Wednesday 02 April 2003 09:34, Hans-Martin Flesch wrote:

For Linux users: http://www.antivir.de/order/privreg/linux.htm You have to register to receive a license file. It costs, well, nothing. hth, Frank

We ship an _evaluation_ license key on SuLi, which is valid for 6-8 month. (*) This is mentioned in the mail to root and README.SuSE for the antivir package. Please visit http://www.antivir.de to get either a personal key (non-commerical use) for free, or for commerical use buy the correct license. best regards, Rainer Link (*) we ship a eval license key simply for tha fact, that without an key antivir returns always 214, regardless if a virus was found or not. This causes problems when used used withhin amavis, obviously. -- Rainer Link | SuSE Linux AG - The Linux Experts link@suse.de | Developer of A Mail Virus Scanner (www.amavis.org) www.suse.de | Founder OpenAntiVirus Project (www.openantivirus.org)
What about shipping f-prot for Linux? It's free for personal usage (http://www.f-prot.com/products/home_use/linux/) and usable with Amavis. On Mittwoch, 2. April 2003 11:58, Rainer Link wrote: [...]

Actually, AntiVir is free for personal useage, too. The amavis package(s) shipped with SuLi have been buil with the --enable-all switch, so you can easily switch from AntiVir to F-Prot / F-Prot Daemon, if you like, i.e. simply set "my $antivir = ""; and "my $fprot = /path/to/fprot". See README.SuSE of the amavis package for details. Anyway, it's getting off-topic here. Comments, feedback et al is of course welcome, but send it to me directly, not to the list. Thanks. best regards, Rainer Link -- Rainer Link | SuSE Linux AG - The Linux Experts link@suse.de | Developer of A Mail Virus Scanner (www.amavis.org) www.suse.de | Founder OpenAntiVirus Project (www.openantivirus.org)
