Hey Dirk, run a man personal-firewall query and see what you find on Suse 8.0. zilch. matter of fact search every help doc suse.com has on the web and see what you find too. zilch or next to it. personal-firewall blocks all incoming connections... and that is about it. likewise run your normal iptables commands on see what you find on suse 8.0. zilch. no normally I don't run Suse Dirk hope that is OK with you. I Installed it by just whistling at it how did you do yours? On 2002.09.29 17:58 Dirk Janßen wrote:

anybody know the proper command for iptables --list or --status on suse8.0?
I read your former questions to the mailinglist, now this and i only have one question to you: Did you ever learn how to read a man? And how did you ever manage to get you computer installed, anyway Windows oder Linux?!?
Your question for SuSE personal-firewall have been such basics, and this question on iptables is even more basically. You only have to use the help or the man-command. Please try this in future before using the simple way (for you) to ask any mailinglist...
Sincerely, Dirk

Your point. But i did not really mean "man personal...", it was meant more generally: _Read_ news, postings and books and understand them before posting to the mailinglist... But if you like: Go to SuSE support database and ask for "firewall". Then you will get for example two links concerning SuSE 8.0: |ISDN Gateway for Private Networks in SuSE Linux 8.0 or Higher (23.07.2002) |DSL Gateway for Private Networks in SuSE Linux 8.0 or Higher (23.07.2002) Both have hints for using personal-firewall. BTW: I wrote directly to your mailbox, because the mail did not really concern the SuSE-List. Why do you post you answer cross the mailinglist, quoting my whole mail and even writing on top of it?!?
zilch.
Don't understand, please be more expressive...

Yes, this is the normal function of _this_ kind of "firewall", which starts automatically after the complete instalation of SuSE linux. If you like to get ist a bit more differential you have to use SuSEfirewall2. Oh, sorry, you can't find it with man or through the help, i think...
likewise run your normal iptables commands on see what you find on suse 8.0.
zilch.
It tells me that i have to use "iptables -h oder iptables --help for more information"
no normally I don't run Suse Dirk hope that is OK with you.
Hm, i don't think, linux was made for people, who even have difficulties in installing Windows, thats all.
I Installed it by just whistling at it how did you do yours?
With my recently system i put in my CDs from SuSE 7.0, installed it, configured it, updated to SuSE 7.2 and 7.3 and finally updated to 8.0 by sliding in the DVD. Ok, first of all i started reading some news and books some years ago. And this is the point i don't understand with newbies like you: You like to use a hype system and all you are willing to do is to ask some people who already do it. But you seem not to be willing to read any books or manuals on your own, asking a mailinglist is so much easier, isn't it?
