Yes, we don't have a patch description for all packages. Beta packages and other packages, which are only for customers with "more administrator experience" will not have a patchinfo file.
Personally, I don't accept that position. What's the sense in having a tool like YOU if experienced users have to do it by hand. I am quite glad you took your time to program fou4s and offer it here. This seems rather strange. There ARE update description files available, because fou4s is using them. I'll have a look, if the affected files are somehow different. The concrete case is cyrus-sasl on 7.2. I will try to reproduce this (downgrade and try YOU again) if I find the time. Personally, I don't accept that position. What's the sense in having a tool like YOU if experienced users have to do it by hand. This is not truly right. I would like to do everything automatically, but if there are beta-updates around, I wouldn't want them to come through the same channel as regular updates. Anyway, it would be nice to have update description files for KDE3 and GNOME1.4, too, so fou4s could process them. Unfortunately there are none around :(

Heyas, Fou4s is a great tool, nice job. Though I am looking for something to replace YAST and do the same stuff as apt-get does in debian. Anyone know of any such tool for SuSE? Yast is simply much to slow for my taste. /Aidin
Fou4s is a great tool, nice job. Though I am looking for something to replace YAST and do the same stuff as apt-get does in debian. Yast is a setup and configuration tool and apt-get is an installation/update tool only. So you can't really replace yast with apt-get. There is apt4rpm, but I haven't tested. I'm going to do something called suse-get, which gets SuSE packages from an FTP server, if you don't have the CD's around. This is far not apt-get, but makes life easier. Dependency checking is horror, and makes everything slow, and therefore I try to avoid it wherever possible and leave it to RPM (and the errors to the user). Apt has to care for dependencies, and this is why fou4s is not like apt. As a configuration tool, YaST is still good (I only use YaST1), and you can use /etc/rc.config as well. I'll get SuSE8 today, and I heard that they moved lots of stuff to /etc/sysconfig, which is more standards compliant.

But it look like yast1 will not be part of SuSE 8.0, as far as I've seen from the package-list :-(. I've feared this a long time... So well have to stick with /etc/rc.config and Fou4s. Best regards, Ralf Ronneburger
The SuSE website says they moved everything from YAST1 to YAST2. YAST1 is
no longer included. I sure hope they leave sax1 there. I could NOT get X
working on my Toshiba notebook with sax2, but sax did.
Maybe I just need to get the new sax2, which I discovered does not download
using YOU.
