Re: [suse-security] Strange kernel message
Hello Jan,

This is probably not directly security related and might be off-topic - but today I discovered a strenge kernel message in /var/log/messages of our central file server running SuSE Linux 6.2:
Mar 10 12:01:23 xxx kernel: eth0: Something Wicked happened! 000a. [...]
I had the same effect with several ethernet cards with VIA VT3043 Rhine chips. I think it is a driver problem. After this Kernel-Message there goes nothing over that interface.
Thanks for the info - uhm, we would have noticed if the NIC had been down after that kernel message - it's our central server as I said ;-) We have no problem with the network traffic itself - no packet loss at all (thank goodness...). So it seems to be a problem with the driver module, no security issue - and as long as the server continues to serve our data I won't have to worry.
