Hi all. i noticed port 111 (sunrpc?/portmapper) is open on my suse7.3 box. Is this a problem? What would happen if i kill the portmapper? I dont use NFS, is it used for anything else? Cheers, Elf.
Hi all.

Everything that has to do with RPC: NIS (yp), NFS, rstat, bootparams, ... See /etc/rpc for service names in the rpc name space. If you don't use any of these, turn it off. It's just that you need it for nfs mounts (client side) as well, this is why we can't turn it off by default. There is no easy workaround.
Cheers, Elf.
Thanks,
Roman.
