Quoting from the announcement on www.samba.org: This flaw exists in previous versions of Samba from 2.0.x to 2.2.7a inclusive. This is a serious problem and all sites should either upgrade to Samba 2.2.8 immediately or prohibit access to TCP ports 139 and 445. -- Dirk

Your problem is, that your "new" samba version is not officially published for the 7.3 I'm using the same 2.2.7a Version on 7.3 Box coming from the /pub/projects/samba directory on SuSE's ftp-Server. Remember that SuSE does not provide new versions of samba to your 7.3 but tries to "backport" the fix to the originally delievered version. That's what happened here. Either you live with your broken version or you try to fix that in your sources and rebuild the rpm or you wait until the next samba version can be found on the project directory. I will not downgrade to 2.2.1 again! I think SuSE's focus was to build the patches for the official releases as soon as possible. I the near future we will find the 2.2.8-Version there and then everything will be fine again. Andreas
