Hi, I recently found some of the following messages in my /var/log/messages: Nov 14 23:29:10 server2 rplayd[9800]: connect from xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx Nov 14 23:29:10 server2 rplayd[9800]: error: cannot execute /usr/sbin/rplayd: No such file or directory What daemon is rplayd ? Is this some kind of breakin-attempt ? I never had such a message before. Thanks in advance for your help. --- Stephan

AFAIK, it's for playing sound files over the network. If you don't use it (and other needless services), switch it/them off by editing /etc/inetd.conf (man inetd.conf) and restarting inetd (/sbin/inin.d/inetd reload).

It looks like rplayd wants to run an executeable, but don't find it. Nevertheless, we need more informations (ltrace -S or debugging infos) to tell what's going on here Bye, Thomas -- Thomas Biege, SuSE GmbH, Schanzaeckerstr. 10, 90443 Nuernberg E@mail: thomas@suse.de Function: Security Support & Auditing "lynx -source http://www.suse.de/~thomas/thomas.pgp | pgp -fka" Key fingerprint = 09 48 F2 FD 81 F7 E7 98 6D C7 36 F1 96 6A 12 47

Bye, Thomas
Not quite. inetd runs tcpd, tcpd runs rplayd, which isn't installed (-ENOENT). No further information needed. tcpd's logs are somewhat misleading at times...
