I tried the Linux version of this software. When I tried to install it the software gave me a message which said that InterScan VirusWall only works with Red Hat software. Didn't know that Bill Gates had signed a deal with Red Hat :) I would use the virus software that comes with SuSE 7.0/7.1 but all of it is in German and I can't understand a word of it. So, I can't get a virus scanner working on my system. Thanks Richard

There is a SuSE version of TrendMicro InterScan Viruswall. You can download it from Trend Micro's German site (not the .com site!). I gave it a try. It seemed to work ok (at least for me) but the license's price is very abusive (in my opinion). Then I tried Amavis -free- (www.amavis.org, you can use the SuSE built-in version which comes with the SuSE CDs though) and.. I'm still using it. Amavis works pretty well (Q: is it possible to configure Amavis to send info about the virus detected to the recipient person? Currently it only tells that a "virus have been found" and includes original mail's headers but it doesn't tell which virus was found; this last info is sent only to the postmaster or virusalert's mail address you have defined but not to the recipient or sender address). =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= ** RoMaN SoFt / LLFB ** roman@madrid.com http://pagina.de/romansoft ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Well, the upcoming version of amavis-perl provides such a feature, so the warning message tells which virus(es) have been found. amavis-perl will soon replace the old amavis (the shell script) completly. So, stay tuned :-)

Well, we ship H+B EDV AntiVir. You can get an english version from www.hbedv.com. You may have a look at http://www.openantivirus.org/av-unix_e.txt, too. It's a bit outdated - an update is on my to do list. But testing and bug fixing of amavisd (the rewritten version of amavis-perl) has a much higher
Hum, I'm sorry, but I have to say it's available for SuSE Linux 7.0/7.1, too. :-) At least from the german website of Trend Micro. It has been "ported" to SuSE Linux with the help from our R&D guys. Please note ISVW allows you to add/change filtering rules. So, i.e. I can create a rule which blocks all mails containing "Re: " ;-)) priority right now. Support for sendmail's libmilter and postfix works quite well, but exim stuff is broken - qmail support is lacking completly *sigh* :-( So, the chance to get a virus scanner working on you system is really good :-) HTH best regards, Rainer Link -- Rainer Link | SuSE - The Linux Experts link@suse.de | Developer of A Mail Virus Scanner (amavis.org) www.suse.de | Founder OpenAntiVirus Project (www.openantivirus.org)

The problem arose from the U.S Trendmicro office. As far as I can see they assume that you either use MS Windows or Red Hat Linux. This is difficult to grasp for the first time user of their Linux software. I used to be one of their beta testers until I dropped MS Windows in the bin. I find that if you want A/V software they can be really good but their support department in the States was never reliable for anything.

I think it's very good. But, up till now getting hold of some good English docs was difficult.

Yes, I've contacted Trendmicro in Germany and I'll have another look at Amavis. It's e-mail scanning that I'm really interested in. Thanks Richard Sheffield Linux User's Group http://www.sheflug.co.uk Microsoft products are not installed here.
Hi Richard, don't worry about the message. Just provide what it asks for -> /etc/REDHAT-release (I suppose). Edit the file and insert VERSION = 7.0 or download the appropriet tarball from: http://www.trendmicro.de/downloads/default.htm (At the .com site they only provide a redhat release) regards Thomas
