Failed password for root from 127.0.0.1 port 2423 ssh2 Further investigation by me revealed, that the md5 passwords are "guilty". If I put a non-md5 password in /etc/passwd, login works. Here my settings from /etc/pam.d/sshd (which worked before) #%PAM-1.0 auth required /lib/security/pam_unix.so # set_secrpc auth required /lib/security/pam_nologin.so auth required /lib/security/pam_env.so account required /lib/security/pam_unix.so
